If there was only one word in the English language to describe Phil Sielaff, it would have to be enthusiastic. He’s had an affinity for cars since he was a youngster, which his mother said he’d grow out of. Hasn’t happened yet, and according to Phil, it won’t happen... ever. He’s owned many a muscle car, including a ‘69 SS396 El Camino, even while he and wife of 37 years, Linda, raised three boys. During that time Phil was helping to keep a Super Modified round track car running in the very competitive northern California circuit. All this while juggling a government career in the Navy and the Bureau of Land Management as an electronic specialist, responsible for building lightning towers and weather stations all over the country. After spending 35 years in the service of the government, Phil decided to retire, but for a guy who had been away from his passion for cars and racing for 15 years, retirement didn’t sit too well. Being friends with Bruce Compton for many years, who is also the father of Performance Solutions founder and president Matt Compton, Bruce suggested Phil go see Matt to indulge his thirst for mechanical knowledge. Matt needed help, so after just three days of retirement, Phil started working at Performance Solutions and hasn’t looked back. As a form of relaxation, Phil drag races his ‘80 Chevrolet Malibu at Firebird Raceway here in Boise, where he raced when the track first opened in 1968.
